How do feed materials, feed additives, premixtures and medicated feed differ?
Feed Additives & PremixesAnswer 01Reviewed September 2026
These terms describe different regulatory and functional categories and should not be used interchangeably. A feed material provides nutritional or other feed value; an additive is intentionally added for an authorised function; a premixture is a mixture designed to distribute additives before final-feed manufacture. Medicated feed contains an authorised veterinary drug under a separate framework. Classification depends on composition, function, claims and market rules, so the buyer should settle it before formula, label or customs planning.
